It was the first to make use of the Aegis system along with the vertical launch missile tubes. The US navy destroyers are another popular weapon used by the US navy. In simple words, destroyers are ships. They are used to protect larger water craft. They work great as a defensive equipment and ate used to ward attacks from aircraft, surface ships and even submarines. But, since these ships are quite nimble, they lack the bulky armor seen with most defensive equipment. US navy aircraft carriers are another important weapon in the list of US Navy weapons. The US navy maintains 11 aircraft carriers, which are ready at all times. These carriers are used only when there is any kind of threat to the security of The United States. Since they are mobile, they can be employed anywhere as and when required. High speed vessels are another arm that is used by the US navy for security purposes. There have been several versions of high speed vessels used by the US navy. These days, the navy is busy experimenting with the second aluminum-hull High Speed Vessel, HSV 2 Swift. The Swift is ideal for use in any missions in the coastal areas. Earlier, the HSV 1 was used by the navy. There are several other weapons as well that are used by the US navy. Some of these include various missiles, aircrafts, aircraft carriers, dolphins and the like. Each of these weapons adheres to extremely high quality standards. A lot of research and development is gone into the making of these weapons on the US navy. Every year, a huge part of the budget is allocated into the making of these arms and ammunition. While some of the weapons are made from government owned agencies, there are others that come from private manufacturers.
