| Getting In The Navy With GED |
|
The US Navy provides equal opportunities for selection into its hallowed ranks to all classes of academic qualifiers. Eligible candidates normally get into the Navy armed with a high school diploma. However, even those of you who have left school education halfway can do so with just GED (general educational development) credentials and a minimum AFQT (armed forces qualifying test) score of 50.
GED stands for general educational development. The AFQT score is based on the ASVAB (armed services vocational aptitude battery) tests score obtained by a candidate. Knowing the following details can help candidates know about the GED route to admission into the Navy. Eligibility - The American Council of Education developed GED forms a battery of five tests taken by candidates who have left school education uncompleted. The tests include mathematics, language arts - writing, social studies, science, and language arts - reading. It is not for those students who already have a high school diploma in their bag. Nor is it available to students already enrolled in an accredited high school education program. Certain other eligibility conditions for GED include minimum 16 years age (18+ in some US states). They also include residency in the US and not having earlier passed the GED. However, under certain conditions, a candidate can take a retest in GED if he/she has scored enough to merit GED credential in the earlier test. Passing the GED with GED credential earns a US eligible resident who has left school education half-way the same right to gain admission into the US Navy as a high school diploma holder. As such sometimes the GED is also unofficially called the general equivalency diploma. Registration for GED - The requirement varies by geographical location in the US. Generally, identity verification, eligibility verification, and pre-testing taken together form the basis of registration of candidates for the official GED tests. Preparation for the GED tests - The US education agencies provide sufficient tuition opportunities for candidates who want to prepare for GED tests. Adult education and individual tutoring form the basis of GED preparation. Besides this, candidates can test their preparation beforehand by practicing answering the questions provided in GED mock test books developed by the GED Testing Service. Taking these practice tests help candidates know the level of their preparation for the official GED tests. Candidates failing in certain areas in the practice tests need to study harder in those areas and pass them before they are allowed to take the official GED tests. Passing the official GED tests - A total of 3200 testing centers are available throughout the US and Canada for candidates. The highest score that a candidate can obtain in each of the five tests is 800 of which 50% is the minimum marks. It is difficult to cheat in the tests because different candidates are provided different questions of the same level of difficulty to answer. Related Articles
