United States Navy- World's Largest Navy
United States Navy is one of the seven uniformed services in
the United States and it is one of the branches of the armed
forces of the nation. US navy is responsible for accomplishment
of the all the naval operations.
Around 335,000 personnel are on duty in the US navy and
there are around 128,000 personnel in held Reserve. Currently,
the US navy operates on 280 ships and 3,700 aircrafts.
The origin of the US navy can be traced back to the
Continental Navy that came into being during the American
Revolutionary War but was disbanded soon after. Then the United
States Constitution granted a legal sanction for the seaborne
military. Congress was given the power to make available and
maintain a naval force. In 1794, The Naval Act was passed and
the navy was formed.
The United States Navy came into limelight only in the
twentieth century during the World War II. Today, US Navy has
its own mark. Its presence has been marked in the areas like
East Asia, Middle East and Southern Europe. It even plays a
significant role during the peacetime. In case of natural
crisis like floods, tornado or tsunami, the Navy too offers
assistance.
The United States navy is known to be the largest in the
world. Even if the next seventeen forces in the list are added,
they do not stand equivalent to the United States navy. The
budget of the US navy for the fiscal year 2008 is around $127.3
billion. Even the world's prime carrier fleet with eleven
carriers in service and two under construction is possessed by
United States Navy.
The uniform of United States Navy gives its officers a
gallant look. It is well designed to give the officials a
professional look and simultaneously signify the naval
heritage. The United States Navy uniforms can be categorized
into three categories. First is the dress uniform which is to
be worn during the formal military functions. Second is the
service uniform which is to be worn in the classrooms or in the
office. The third is the working uniform which is to be worn at
dirty places or at places where physical labor is required.
Owing to its popularity, many people now aspire to be Navy
officials. There are many Navy jobs which come up every now and
then. There are also many colleges present which provide
training and education to aspiring navy officials.
