| US Navy Provides Education Support To Student Civilian Employees |
|
If you are an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate (doctoral) student studying science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) in a university in the US, there is an opportunity to get your education funded. You may not be aware that in lieu of each one year of service of civilian service to be committed by you for rendering in the US Navy, you can receive one-year educational support. This helpful initiative comes to you jointly from the NSF (National Science Foundation) and DoN (Department of Navy).
Actually what I am referring for your benefit is the NSF-Navy Civilian Service (NNCS) Fellowship-Scholarship Program. The scholarship is available for application by US University PIs (Principal Investigators) (on behalf of their students) who are currently in receipt of an NSF award from the Engineering directorate. The NSF will process applications from eligible PIs and manage the program after the award of the scholarship. On its part, the DoN will make suggestions on the selection of panelists who will review the applications. It will also administer the role of the Navy participants. The available vacancy positions for aspiring students are in the various research centers of the US Navy. For up to two years of your commitment to help the Navy further research in its naval projects, you also get fiscal support through the scholarship program launched by the NSF-DoN combine. Besides the scholarship, an educational allowance is also included as part of the educational support under the above program. The commencement of your employment as a civilian employee in the US Navy for a period up to two years begins after you receive the university degree for which you will have then already been granted the above scholarship. If your commitment is for one year's job in the US Navy, you stand to be considered for grant of one year's scholarship and educational allowance. If the commitment is for two year's service in the US Navy, you will be considered for grant of scholarship and educational allowance for two years. The Undergraduate scholarship amount granted is $8,000 plus the actual cost of tuition, fees, room, board and books (educational allowance). The Master fellowship amount granted is $20,000 plus $10,500 extra towards educational allowance. The Doctoral fellowship amount granted is $30,500 plus $10,500 extra towards educational allowance. Eligible undergraduate students will be US citizen juniors or seniors eligible for security clearance (see below) with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or greater. The Navy uses contracts for fulfillment of the commitment to serve the US Navy by eligible students slated to receive the scholarship. The contract will have to be signed by the eligible students who are slated to receive the scholarship before they receive the grant promised under it. The total number of scholarship awards per year is 10. Related Articles
